Turner-Ingersoll Mansion
or House of the Seven Gables
Built in 1668 by the Turner family, the House of the Seven Gables is one of the oldest wood homes in New England.
The Ingersoll family purchased the mansion after one of the Turner sons squandered the family fortune. Susan Ingersoll, a cousin of author Nathaniel Hawthorne, lived in the house until she was quite old and was visited often by Hawthorne. His gothic novel,
The House of the Seven Gables, was inspired by the house.
